ABOUT BLOCK is a week-long architectural festival organised by The Lighthouse, Scotland’s Centre for Architecture, Design and the City.

The City’s heritage and regeneration is highlighted through a programme of exhibitions, events, walks, talks and tours across the city. The Festival receives core funding from Glasgow City Council. BLOCK will run from 8 – 15 October 2005.

 
 
Programme Aims

• To re-enforce Glasgow as an energetic and ever adapting city
• To promote and celebrate the City’s architectural heritage, present and regeneration
• To celebrate and showcase Glasgow’s architects and its architecture
• To deliver a cohesive, relevant, meaningful and memorable programme to all Glaswegians, people who work in the city and visitors
• To build on the success of BLOCK 2004 by increasing the number and types of events, therefore attracting larger audiences
• To deliver a wide ranging programme with events of different scales and themes to suit varying needs
• To increase notions of civic pride and community participation
• To forge international links and bring international examples of excellence to Glasgow

• To increase economic activity in Glasgow as a result of the BLOCK programme
• To place Glasgow on an international stage, socially, culturally and economically
• To work with relevant partners to create new opportunities and maximise existing initiatives
• To increase national and international visitors to Glasgow
